Behind the Artist: Micro-Element #1: Emphasis on Narrative

As a group we decided that a strong emphasis should be place on the story of our song. With its strong imagery and entertaining metaphors I feel that we would be doing our song a disjustice if we were to take any other route.
In order to get a better understanding of a  music video driven by narrative we have flagged up the video Ghetto Gospel and decided to analyse it somewhat to see what the video is about and see how it relates the story being told in the video to that of the one in the lyrics.

The video features TuPac (the rapper of the song)as his younger self, playing out his final days on this earth. The overall message of both the song and the video is that should always stay living, and make the most of what you have.

Nearly every shot in this video seems to show the best and worst moments of his life, this use of elation and complete depression is called binary oppositions. By having very clear distinctions between the good times and the bad helps to create a more positive attitude towards staying alive and fighting for what you have.

As an addition to the point of narrative, this video also includes a shot of man the audience believ to be 2-PAC slowing getting further away from view whilst walking down a back alley. This is the kind of shot we want to include into our production. I feel that showing a character walking away can symbolise the idea of some one turning their back on their past or on their life. These are both themes that are repeated in Driftin Away.
